a sentimental soul.

While clearing things (yes i am still clearing, HAHA), I stumbled upon my essay in Secondary School and my poems in JC. Reading my material, and wondering how on earth I wrote them. I found myself smirking with embarrassment, or smiling with nostalgia, or just amazed at the kind of stuff I wrote. At some point, it seemed writing poems and/or stories seemed childish. Looking back, that was quite foolish.

Apparently, the life stage after graduation is really the crossroads. The point of change - critical point. All these questions all now popping. People changing priorities and becoming busier. I think I'm quite glad when I realise that sociological concepts just jump at me in real life. I'm happy that what my degree is in, I can actually apply. In that sense, sociology's like dead poet society - you develop a dark humour that only those with that sociological frame of mind can appreciate. (sorry if I sound elitist, rofl)

I find myself battling. Like.. between making it in this world (i.e. getting a relatively well-to-do job, excelling in career, being driven to achieve) and being just contented (like being a good person, self-development, etc). Resisting the strong pull of societal norms, like career, gender, relationships, family. Finding myself reflecting and thinking about myself, my character, whether I'm contradictory and whatnot.

As I told a few close friends, when I was young, I thought that we'll all grow up and once we reach adulthood, Poof! We'll be wise, knowledgeable and know what to do with our lives. Then I realised that, Shit, that's not gonna happen. Growing up means we're still dealing with the same kind of problems, just that we're a little more experienced (from being through it again and again..).
